I've Got My Ticket... Bend It Like Beckham – The Musical

Six days into January my family and I travelled London way to see the matinee show of Bend It Like Beckham – The Musical.

Although I had seen the 2002 Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley film, it was an extremely long time ago. So much so, that I wouldn't be able to tell you when.

Before going I was in two minds about whether booking the tickets was a good idea or not. I was both skeptical and intrigued about what the stage version would result in. So, because of this and that there was a brilliant offer on prices there wasn't much to lose.

Show Name: Bend It Like Beckham - The Musical
Venue: Phoenix Theatre, London
Performance Dates: May 2015 - 5th March 2016
Starring: Natalie Dew, Lauren Samuels, Tom Millen, Sejal Keshwala (Eastenders)
Musical Director: Nigel Lilley

Natalie Dew
Minutes after scooping through an irresistible McFlurry's ice-cream (I chose Cadbury's Crunchie), we took our seats on the floor of the resplendent Phoenix Theatre. Normally we end up sitting up the top, so it was a little treat being in the stalls.

Brief Information:
In case you aren't aware of the movies plot it is about a young Indian girl who peruses her goal to become the female David Beckham, whilst going against everything she has ever known.

My Opinion:
Now my comments on the show...
Not just one, two, or even three cast members stood out for their knack of performing terrifically, but the entire lot. Just five minutes in there was laughter from the audience for the chucklesome scenes that were happening before us all. Glistening ensembles, animated dancing and a whole football pitch of funky and meaningful songs lasted the full two-hours-and-twenty-minutes (including interval) running.

What did you like?
For me, the simple reason that this West End production confirmed family, religion and strong beliefs cannot keep people away from chasing down their dreams.

What would you change?
The dances were incredibly joyous. Even more of them wouldn't have done any harm.

My star rating out of five:

Bargain Buys... New Year Sales

We are now two weeks into 2016 (its flying by already!), which I guess means that most of our local shops have got rid of all their Christmas stock and have little left over of the other items that were marked down in price.

Never have I really associated myself with deals such as ‘Black Friday’, but after the 25th of December I do keep my eyes peeled for new purchases with the striking red sticker covering its original attached tag.

There were a few essentials that I had trouble trying to get for a little while, my biker boots for example. Where I do a lot of walking they had almost worn out to the point where stepping in a puddle was a big no-no... unless I wanted wet feet (not a good experience).

So, with my list of things to get, including a replacement pair of boots without holes in them, I set off with my mum for some retail therapy and returned with this lot…

On the most festive day of the year my ‘trusty’ umbrella decided to break. I stay far away from the cheap little ones as they are no good when you are plodding through fields battling against strong winds. My last rain-defender was from Wilkinsons and cost £5.00. It had a funky little button to automatically open it up and they still sell them now, so I knew that I couldn't go wrong with getting another.

While I was in there my mother pointed out a smart A4 document holder that was half covered with a checkered pattern and had the initial of my name on the front. At just 25p I wasn’t going to leave it behind.

Some of my posts before have detailed my likeness for all things Disney and for a few cartoon characters as well. The 99p Stores to me are brilliant for picking up objects that have a great difference in pennies compare to other places. I am not embarrassed to say that I’ve already got my advent calendar for next year. And yes it has princesses on it. This was half price at 50p.

What a surprise (sarcasm) it was that my longest till receipt of the day came from Primark. The rails and shelves inside hardly ever let me down and I usually end up walking out with pieces that I didn’t even have written down. Never mind. Here is what I skipped out with tucked away in my paper bag (after paying!)…

x2 Cami Vests with Inner Support:
Navy – Reduced from £2.50 to £1.00
Black – Reduced from £4.00 to £2.00
Its what I normally have on under any pyjama set.

x1 Cream Nighdress:
Reduced from £4.50 to £2.00
These are cosy to wear in summer or winter when they have a decent length like this one. As well as the appropriate cream colour I found the floral deer and bird illustration rather sweet.

x2 Wooly Jumpers:
Grey - Reduced from £14.00 to £2.00
Karki Green - Reduced from £14.00 to £2.00
What a massive saving this was!
I would be shocked if thick knits were to ever go out of fashion.

x1 Pair of Leggings:
Black – It said £3.00 on their sticker, but £2.80 when they scanned through.
Tasmin LIVES in her leggings.

x1 Pack of 5 Mini Briefs:
Multiple pack – Reduced from £3.00 to £1.00
A spare lot to go in the underwear drawer.

x2 Christmas Hair Clips:
x1 Penguin and x1 gingerbread man – Reduced from £2.00 to 50p (One was missing)
My hair is typically complete with a bow, so at least I have a different look for the next time Santa arrives.

I was chuffed to say the least when I finished off the afternoon with my NEW precious boots to take home. Judging by how sturdy they are £20.00 was a reasonable amount to hand over at Shoe Zone.

How many till receipts did you have after the sales?
- What products did they have printed on them?
